Job summary

Quest Diagnostics is seeking a Specimen Processing Trainer in Miramar, FL. This full-time role trains all Specimen Preparation Technicians across processing phases and supports supervisors with progress reports.

Specimen Processing Trainer - Miramar, FL, Monday to Friday, 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM

Pay range: $21.42+ per hour; employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Role Overview

This position is responsible for training all Specimen Preparation Technicians in all phases of Specimen Processing. The Trainer provides input to Supervisors regarding the Technician’s progress and performance, may conduct process and compliance audits as needed, and trains new hires and existing employees on an ongoing basis to ensure they acquire critical skills for career progression. Strong training, presentation, facilitation and communication skills are required, along with the ability to learn and understand the skills and processes being taught. The Trainer must draw from internal and external resources to maximize training effectiveness.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and facilitate training for all new and existing employees.
  • Maintain a written training program and develop training as needed.
  • Maintain all training materials and provide support during inspections.
  • Provide Supervisors with appropriate feedback and progress reports on new employees.
  • Adhere to and apply all Quest Diagnostics policies and procedures, including safety and compliance during training sessions.
  • Attend additional meetings and training sessions as needed by department leadership.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times; handle sensitive employee and department performance information responsibly.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and understanding of all job duties and SOPs related to the Specimen Processing Department.
  • Convey a thorough understanding of how all functions in Specimen Processing work together and impact the testing laboratory.
  • Explain compliance policies related to test ordering, including research on translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services.
  • Describe the complex relationship between test(s) ordered and specimen received during training sessions.
  • Complete all required written documentation legibly and within the assigned timeframe.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Work Experience

  • Internal candidates must have a minimum of one year in PR Tech/Group Leader or a related role.

Preferred Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years Lab experience, preferably in a production environment.
  • Medical background preferred, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory or equivalent experience.
  • Training background or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Training coursework/certification preferred (e.g., adult learning theory, ASTD, etc.).
Physical And Mental Requirements
  • Works in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits.
  • Handles multiple tasks and works in a production environment.
  • Able to sit or stand for long periods.
Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to convey information and concepts.
  • PC skills, including a working knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • Maintains composure while working with new trainees and experienced employees that are difficult to train.
  • Reflects good judgment at all times when determining what action to take when resolving problems.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment.
  • Exhibits flexibility and ability to adapt to changes in procedures and the training of those procedures quickly.
Education
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required).
