Job summary

QUEST DIAGNOSTICS INC is hiring a Specimen Processing Trainer at our San Juan Capistrano location. In this role, you'll coordinate training for new and existing employees in all phases of Specimen Processing. We're looking for someone with strong communication and facilitation skills, and a commitment to employee training and development.

Ideal candidates will have 3+ years of experience, a High School Diploma, and a background in medical terminology. This position offers a competitive pay range of $24.12 - $28.63 per hour with shift differentials available.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year in a PR Tech/Group Leader or related role.
  • 3+ years lab experience in a production environment preferred.
  • Training coursework/certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate training for new and existing employees.
  • Maintain and develop training materials as needed.
  • Provide feedback to Supervisors regarding progress of trainees.

Specimen Processing Trainer - San Juan Capistrano, CA, Wednesday to Sunday, 4:00 AM to 12:30 PM

This position is responsible for training all Specimen Preparation Technicians in all phases of Specimen Processing. The Trainer is responsible for providing input to Supervisors regarding the Specimen Preparation Technician's progress and performance and may also conduct process and compliance audits as needed. The Trainer is responsible for training of new hires and existing employees on an on‑going basis ensuring they have the opportunity to learn critical skills needed for career progression. This position requires strong training, presentation, facilitation, and communications skills. Must also demonstrate the ability to learn and understand the skills and processes that are being taught. The ability to draw from both internal and external resources and knowledge to maximize training effectiveness is required.

Pay range: $24.12 - $28.63 / hour; employee may be eligible to receive shift differential of 10% for some or all hours worked on second shift and 15% for some or all hours worked on third shift. Additional details on shift differential will be provided if an offer is extended.

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and facilitate training for all new employees as well as existing employees
  • Maintain a written training program and develop training as needed
  • Maintain all training materials and answer questions during inspections
  • Provide Supervisors with appropriate feedback when problems arise, including progress reports on all new employees
  • Adhere to and apply all Quest Diagnostics policies and procedures, including safety and compliance during training sessions
  • Occasionally attend additional meetings and training sessions as required by department leadership
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, safeguarding knowledge related to departmental performance
  • Demonstrate proficiency and understanding of all job duties and SOPs related to the Specimen Processing Department
  • Convey a thorough understanding of how all functions in Specimen Processing work together during training sessions
  • Explain how Specimen Processing impacts the testing laboratory during training sessions
  • Understand compliance policies related to test ordering and research test ordering information on translation tables, computer systems, and directories of services
  • Explain the relationship between ordered tests and received specimens during training sessions
  • Complete all required written documentation legibly and within the assigned timeframe
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Work Experience

Internal candidates must have a minimum of one year in PR Tech/Group Leader or related role.

Preferred Work Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years lab experience preferably in a production environment
  • Medical background preferred, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory or equivalent experience.
  • Training background or equivalent experience preferred
  • Training coursework/certification preferred (e.g., adult learning theory, ASTD, etc.)
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Work in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits
  • Handle multiple tasks and work in a production environment
  • Able to sit or stand for long periods
Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to convey information and concepts are required
  • PC skills, including a working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Maintain composure while working with new trainees and experienced employees who are difficult to train
  • Show good judgment when determining actions to resolve problems
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment
  • Exhibit flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to changes in procedures and training procedures
Education
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
