Job summary

ARUP Laboratories in Salt Lake City, UT, is seeking an entry-level Specimen Processing Assistant to learn proper handling of all specimens and prepare them for testing. Under direct supervision, you will perform data entry, aliquoting, labeling, and documentation according to SOPs.

The role covers receiving specimens, matching patient information, processing orders, and assisting the lab with workflow coordination.

Qualifications

• Must maintain department quality and productivity.
• Competency exam with 90% or higher after training.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

• Reads and signs all department SOPs and Safety Manual.
• Attends Specimen Processing team and staff meetings.
• Processes specimens as they become available with proper labeling and handling.
• Enter patient demographics and process specimens/orders using the appropriate applications.
• Order all tests indicated on the requisition.
• Process all manual and electronically transmitted tests on submitted paperwork.
• Comment appropriately on requisitions/packing lists.
• Follow department processes to resolve issues and ensure accuracy.
• Handle and label specimens and paperwork in accordance with procedures.
• Ensure all identifiers are checked and specimens are correctly labeled.
• Operate the track system or transport specimens to the testing lab at proper temperatures.
• Operate the centrifuge where required (University Division).
• Proficient in ARUP LIS applications and Accessioning/Shipment Tracking.
