Job summary

Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to handle specimen processing, data entry, and communications with patients and clinicians. The role involves verifying specimen identity, preparing samples for analysis, and coordinating with outside labs as needed.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for candidates who have six months of related experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Six (6) months job related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive laboratory specimens (blood and other body fluids) and verify identity and acceptability.
• Enter orders for laboratory testing into the Lab Information System and collect patient demographics.
• Prepare specimens for analysis and for referral to outside reference laboratories as needed.
• Answer telephone inquiries and provide specimen requirements, test availability, and status; report laboratory results.
