Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to handle specimen processing, data entry, and communications with patients and clinicians. The role involves verifying specimen identity, preparing samples for analysis, and coordinating with outside labs as needed.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with a preference for candidates who have six months of related experience.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for receiving laboratory specimens (blood and other body fluids), insuring specimen identity and acceptability; entering orders for laboratory testing into the Lab Information System; and entering patient demographic and insurance information into the patient registration system. Prepares specimens for analysis. Answers telephone and provides information related to specimen requirements, test availability, specimen testing status; provides laboratory results. Prepares specimens for referral to outside reference laboratories and insures that all storage requirements are met.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

• High School Diploma or equivalent plus additional training or equivalent knowledge required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

• Six (6) months job related experience preferred
