Job summary

Tampa General Hospital is seeking a Lab Assistant to support Laboratory Services with accurate receipt, labeling, processing, and transport of specimens. You will perform clerical duties, data entry, and provide excellent customer service while coordinating with nursing, physicians, and staff to ensure timely testing.

The role emphasizes safety, CAP readiness, and adherence to infection control guidelines in a fast-paced environment. On-site position at the Tampa General Hospital campus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with basic clinical understanding.
• Experience with specimen labeling, transport, and storage is preferred.
• Comfort with data entry, reporting, and verification in lab systems.

Responsibilities

• Receive, label, process, and route laboratory specimens accurately and timely.
• Coordinate specimen collection with registration, physicians, and clinical teams.
• Verify patient/specimen information for accuracy and compliance.
• Perform data entry, result inquiries, error corrections and documentation in LIS.
• Handle phone calls and provide professional patient and staff service.
• Maintain storage, tracking and transport of specimens to labs.
• Support clerical tasks including filing, records, and report generation.
• Assist with QA activities, CAP readiness, and safety protocols.
• Collaborate with staff to resolve specimen issues and ensure timely testing.
