Job summary

Mead & Hunt, Inc. is seeking a full-time Specifications Writer to develop and manage project manuals for vertical construction. The role involves writing specifications for Divisions 00‑14, coordinating the entire project manual, researching products, and maintaining master specifications across disciplines.

Mentoring staff and ongoing learning in building products and standards are expected. Travel will be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, architecture, or engineering.
• Minimum eight years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Create project manuals for vertical construction projects.
• Prepare and assist with writing specifications for Divisions 00‑14 and coordinate the entire project manual.
• Assist with product research, evaluations, and selection.
• Develop and update master specifications and lead formatting across disciplines.
• Mentor staff and participate in ongoing educational opportunities related to building products, materials, technologies, and standards.

Job description

Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized architectural and engineering firm, is experiencing unprecedented growth. A full‑time specifications writer is needed. Responsibilities include creating project manuals for vertical construction projects; preparing and assisting with writing specifications for Divisions 00‑14 and coordinating the entire project manual; assisting with product research, evaluations, and selection; developing and updating master specifications and leading formatting across disciplines; participating in educational opportunities related to building products, materials, technologies, and standards; and mentoring staff. Travel will be required.

Requirements – Must Have

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in construction management, architecture, or engineering
• At least eight years of relevant experience

Ideal Candidate – Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading the specification writing process for Divisions 00‑14 while meeting schedules and quality expectations
• Knowledge of current products, materials and standards, including those specified in Divisions 03‑14, ICC Codes, and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs)
• Experience with specification software: MasterSpec, SpecsIntact, BDS SpecLink
• Professional licensure as an architect or engineer
• LEED AP, WELL Accredited Professional, or Guiding Principles Compliance Professional certification
• Experience developing and maintaining master specifications for vertical construction projects

Strong communication and organizational skills, self‑motivation, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential.
