Qualifications

• BSN is required.
• Active Delaware (or compact state) RN licensure required.
• Three years of related clinical experience.
• Pediatric developmental experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Performs ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient progress and updates the care plan.
• Identifies resources and initiates teaching and referrals for patients and families.
• Responds to patient phone calls and explains treatment regimens after physician discussion.
• Shares clinical knowledge with the health care team and collaborates with Nursing Education to disseminate subspecialty knowledge.
• Acts as liaison between families and health care team for coordinated care.
• Applies nursing knowledge within the Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies.
• Contributes to development of standards of care for the specialty patient population.
• Provides proficient care across all ages (neonates to adults).

Nemours is seeking a Specialty Nurse to support the Psychiatry and Developmental Medicine team.

Job Description

Primary Function

The Developmental Medicine and Psychiatry Specialty Nurse is responsible for an area of specialized nursing practice, and provides direct and indirect care to patients and their families in the ambulatory, and outpatient settings. Utilizes the nursing process as a basis for providing and evaluating nursing care. Applies knowledge of growth and development, pathophysiology and family dynamics in delivery of care.

Essential Functions

• Performs ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient progress and revision of interdisciplinary plan of care related to patient needs.
• Identifies patient/family need for further resources and initiates appropriate teaching and/or referrals.
• Participates in responding to patient phone calls. Explains treatment regimens to patient/family after having discussed with the physician.
• Demonstrates ability to share clinical knowledge with other members of the health care team; works collaboratively with Nursing Education Department to share subspecialty knowledge with nursing staff.
• Acts as a liaison between families and members of the health care team.
• Utilizes specialized body of knowledge and technical skills in nursing practice related to subspecialty in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and protocol.
• Participates in the development of standards of care for the specialty patient population.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages; neonates, pediatrics, adolescents and adults.
• Recognizes and identifies own learning needs and responsibility for continual development; strives to increase knowledge and identifies goals for professional growth.
• Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality/Process Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation.

• Active Delaware (or compact state) Registered Nurse Licensure Required, Additional state licensure will be required as determined
• Three years of related clinical experience
• Developmental Pediatric experience preferred but not necessary. Prior pediatric nursing experience necessary.
• Specialty Nurse hours Monday- Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
