Nemours is seeking a Developmental Medicine and Psychiatry Specialty Nurse to provide advanced nursing care in ambulatory and outpatient settings, leveraging growth, physiology, and family dynamics to support patients and families.

The role emphasizes ongoing assessment, care planning, patient education, and collaboration with the Nursing Education Department, families, and the healthcare team to improve outcomes across neonates to adults.

Qualifications

• BSN required.
• Active Delaware (or compact) RN licensure.
• Three years of related clinical experience.
• Developmental Pediatric experience preferred but not necessary.
• Specialty Nurse hours: Mon-Fri 8:30am-5:00pm.

Responsibilities

• Ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient progress and care plan revisions.
• Identify needs for resources and initiate teaching or referrals.
• Respond to patient calls and explain treatments after physician discussion.
• Share clinical knowledge with nursing staff; collaborate with Nursing Education Department.
• Act as liaison between families and health care team.
• Apply specialized nursing knowledge per Nurse Practice Act and hospital policy.
• Participate in development of standards of care for the specialty population.
• Demonstrate proficiency across neonates, pediatrics, adolescents and adults.

Job description

Nemours is seeking a Specialty Nurse to support the Psychiatry and Developmental Medicine team.

Primary Function:

The Developmental Medicine and Psychiatry Specialty Nurse is responsible for an area of specialized nursing practice, and provides direct and indirect care to patients and their families in the ambulatory, and outpatient settings. Utilizes the nursing process as a basis for providing and evaluating nursing care. Applies knowledge of growth and development, pathophysiology and family dynamics in delivery of care.

Essential Functions:

1. Performs ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient progress and revision of interdisciplinary plan of care related to patient needs.
2. Identifies patient/family need for further resources and initiates appropriate teaching and/or referrals.
3. Participates in responding to patient phone calls. Explains treatment regimens to patient/family after having discussed with the physician.
4. Demonstrates ability to share clinical knowledge with other members of the health care team; works collaboratively with Nursing Education Department to share subspecialty knowledge with nursing staff.
5. Acts as a liaison between families and members of the health care team.
6. Utilizes specialized body of knowledge and technical skills in nursing practice related to subspecialty in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and protocol.
7. Participates in the development of standards of care for the specialty patient population.
8. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages; neonates, pediatrics, adolescents and adults.
9. Recognizes and identifies own learning needs and responsibility for continual development; strives to increase knowledge and identifies goals for professional growth.
10. Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality/Process Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation.

BSN Required

Active Delaware (or compact state) Registered Nurse Licensure Required,Additional state licensure will be required as determined

Three years of related clinical experience

Developmental Pediatric experience preferred but not necessary. Prior pediatric nursing experience necessary.

Specialty Nurse hours Monday- Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
