General Description
This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing a comprehensive fundraising and communications strategy that supports the mission and growth of Communities In Schools (CIS) of Chesterfield. This role focuses on building strong relationships with donors, stakeholders, and the community, while elevating the organization’s visibility through strategic marketing, branding, and storytelling. This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring the sustainability and impact of CIS of Chesterfield’s work in removing barriers to student success.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develops and executes an annual development plan, including individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grant writing, and special events
- Cultivates and stewards relationships with current and prospective donors, sponsors, and partners, ensuring timely recognition and engagement
- Cultivates champions for CIS of Chesterfield programming, raising community awareness of the level of need in Chesterfield County and how CIS of Chesterfield serves that need
- Manages the CIS of Chesterfield donor database, tracks contributions, and generates applicable reports
- Identifies and applies for public and private grants, in partnership with leadership
- Manages the Development Committee and collaborates with the broader CIS Board to support fundraising initiatives, including board giving and donor prospecting
- Plans and executes annual fundraising events and campaigns
- Monitors fundraising performance against goals, and provides regular updates to leadership and the CIS Board
- Develops and implements a comprehensive communications strategy that supports program development, advocacy, and awareness
- Creates and manages engaging content across platforms, including newsletters, social media, press releases, the CIS website, and annual reports
- Ensures brand consistency in all print and digital materials, adhering to CIS National branding guidelines
- Serves as the primary media contact and develops positive relationships with local media outlets
- Leads communication efforts that highlight student success, staff impact, and community involvement
- Collaborates with program staff to ensure alignment between communications and program impact, and to generate content for communicating and celebrating CIS of Chesterfield success stories
- Collaborates with the Chesterfield Education Foundation (CEF) and other CCPS-related entities to ensure a cohesive and coordinated approach to soliciting financial support from local grantors, businesses, and individual donors
- Performs other duties as required
Budgetary Responsibility:
This position is responsible for managing CIS of Chesterfield fundraising efforts, but has no direct budgetary expenditure responsibility.
Report Preparation:
Various reports related to fundraising and communication efforts, as requested
Equipment Operation:
Computer and other basic office equipment
Contacts:
This position makes frequent contacts both within and outside of CCPS, including all levels of CIS personnel, business leaders, community groups, and donors.
Work Direction/Supervision:
This position provides work direction to and supervises the CIS Development and Communications Coordinator.
Decision Making:
Performs majority of functions independently within established guidelines

Work Environment:
The employee regularly works in an office environment. The noise level is quiet to moderate.
Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to plan, promote, and lead small and large fundraising events. Demonstrated skills in social media marketing and in the creation/promotion of fundraising campaigns (online, print materials and through creative concepts). Considerable knowledge of CIS of Chesterfield programming and a passion for helping students to succeed in school and in life. Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a governing board.
Requirements
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Education, Human Services, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising and communications, with a proven track record of success.
