Job summary

Tallgrass MLP Operations, LLC seeks an Automation & Controls Sr. Specialist to join the Cheyenne Power Hub Project Engineering Team in Houston. You will review contractor work and provide technical guidance for the capital project, focusing on DCS/FGS design and process control for power facilities.

You will produce and review PFDs, interlock diagrams, cause-and-effect diagrams, instrument data sheets, and P&IDs, ensuring compliance with standards and project requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years' experience in a power/oil & gas environment with automation duties.
• Experience with power plants, natural gas processing, compression automation, and instrumentation.
• Knowledge of standard automation communication techniques.
• Knowledge of national/international instrument electrical and controls standards.
• Construction knowledge in electrically hazardous area applications.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).

JOB DESCRIPTION

Primary purpose:

The Automation & Controls Sr. Specialist will be part of the Cheyenne Power Hub Project Engineering Team, which is responsible for reviewing technical work done by the contractor(s) and providing technical guidance and assurance for the capital project.

He/she will be responsible for DCS, FGS design and process control of power generation and transmission facilities. He/ She will produce/ review PFDs, interlock diagrams, cause and effect diagrams, instrument data sheets and P&IDs.

Minimum requirements:

Education:

• BS in engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Chemical.
• Professional engineering registration is preferred.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

• Minimum 15 years' experience in a power company, E/C Company or in an oil & gas company with Automation & Controls control duties.
• Knowledge in power plants, natural gas processing plant and compression automation and the instrumentation necessary for this automation.
• Experience and knowledge in standard communication techniques utilized in the automation industry.
• Knowledge and/or application experience with national and international instrument electrical and controls standards.
• Construction knowledge working in electrically hazardous area applications.
• Thorough knowledge of and ability to consistently apply company policies and practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Intermediate proficiency level in MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

• Familiarity with and ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints and diagrams, including flow charts, cause/effect diagrams, and Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&ID's).
• Demonstrated Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft applications (including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for the purpose of word processing, presentations, spreadsheets and information retrieval.
• Problem solving skills, including logical thought processes, with the ability to resolve simple to complex issues.
• Ability to organize, schedule and prioritize workload to meet various schedules and objectives on short notice.
• Ability to resolve conflict in a win-win manner.
• Adhere to performance expectations as defined by the Department and Customer.

Working Conditions:

• Based in Houston office location.
• Travel may be required Up to 20% time away from the assigned work location; motor vehicle and occasional air travel anticipated.
