Senior Control Engineer, Power Systems
Location: Houston Office
FLSA Class: Exempt
Reports to: IC&E Engineering Manager
Position Summary
This position is primarily responsible for the design, testing, and implementation of new control and automation schemes for power generation, power distribution, and chemical processing equipment as needed by the IC&E Engineering team. Duties may include on‑site commissioning and troubleshooting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automation systems and controls for power generation and gas processing equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair automation equipment and control systems
- Provide assistance to Operations teams in the use of control systems
- Work with other engineers to develop and implement new control systems and automation technologies
- Perform lab testing for new or potential automation equipment as needed
- Participate in project planning and execution
- Develop and maintain technical documentation related to automation systems and controls
- Provide technical support to other departments as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in real‑time automation control and/or embedded systems (C, C++, and/or structured text) programming in the power industry
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the installation, operation, or troubleshooting of industrial automation and control equipment
- Knowledge of Embedded C, Structured Text, Function Block, and PLC programming practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver’s license
Other Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electrical protection relays
- Experience with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories' (SEL) electronics
- Experience with SEL RTAC programming
- Experience with DEIF, Deep Sea, CAT EMCP, or DIANE genset controllers
- Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Rockwell PLCs
- Experience with medium or high voltage switchgear/substation electronics and controls
- Experience with power management systems
- Experience with the integration of industrial SCADA systems and web-based HMI’s
- Knowledge of electrical protection schemes
- Knowledge of electrical arc flash and coordination studies
- Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC) and/or other relevant codes and standards
