Job Description:

POSITION TITLE: Special Programs Coordinator - English as a Second Language (ESL) (part-time)
DEPARTMENT: School of Languages, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
REPORTS TO: Report to the Dean of Languages, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
LOCATION: Fall River, New Bedford, Attleboro, Taunton MA
POSITION STATUS: This is a part-time, MCCC unit position without benefits, not to exceed 18.5 hours per week.
SALARY: $36.55/hr

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Special Programs CoordinatorofEnglish as a Second Language (ESL) provides project and administrative support to theESL Program in the School of Languages, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. The Special Programs Coordinator (ESL) works closely with the Academic Coordinator of English as a Second Language to support daily operational and functional duties. Basic student support is provided in the absence of the Academic Coordinator and escalated as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective ESL students by providing information about program offerings, admissions processes, and placement testing procedures.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and proctor the ESL placement testing in accordance with established testing procedures.
  • Provide assistanceand information to perspective students onnew student orientations and onboarding activities to ensure participants understand program expectations, available resources, and pathways to successful completion.
  • Support students in their transition to the college environment by promoting student engagement, persistence, and success.
  • Assist the Academic Coordinator in planning, implementing, and deliveringacademic advising initiatives and student success programs that support ESL student retention, achievement, and academic goal attainment.
  • Provide information to students to assist in navigating college services, programs, policies, and available support resources to set the student up for success.
  • Provide assistance tothe ESL Academic Coordinator to develop and implement co-curricular and extracurricular activities that enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of community-building, outreach, and student engagement events sponsored by the ESL Program.
  • Support the ESL Academic Coordinator in the administration and activities of the International Club, including event planning, student participation, and program development.
  • Assist students with the use of technology as needed.
  • Demonstrate a sense of professionalism and consistently reflect Bristol's core values while interacting with members of the Bristol Community.
  • Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the ESL Program and the College.
Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business Administration, Mathematics, Computer Science, or other field related to area of assignment; with three (3) years experience and/or training involving area of assignment, which may include college registration, academic advisement, career development, career experience, training, curriculum development, audio/visual or graphic production, grant administration, budget development, program/project management, event planning, administrative work in an academic environment, or personal computer operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including multilingual learners and students from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to speak Spanish or Portuguese.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and student information systems or the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Familiarity with the New Bedford and/or Attleboro areas and community demographics and resources.
