City of Freeport Texas is seeking a Special Program Coordinator to manage the Recreation Center, coordinate community activities, and supervise staff. This role emphasizes independent judgment, initiative, and excellent public interactions.
The position requires a high school diploma or GED, some college preferred, and a valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

RATE CLASS: Hourly Employee - Full Time
REPORTS TO: Public Works Director, Recreation Center Supervisor
SHIFT: Flexible- including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. Some College Preferred. Must have a valid Texas driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 90-days of hire.
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for general business administration operations of the Recreation Center and requires the use of independent judgment, initiative, and discretion.
SPECIAL SKILLS: An ability to facilitate positive community relations is required. Be able to work with the general public, and Recreation Center staff. Computer, word processing and typing skills are required.
DUTIES & RESPOSIBILITIES:
OTHER DUTIES: This job description is intended to describe the general nature of work performed by the Special Program Coordinator and is not intended to be all-inclusive. All employees are expected to perform tasks as assigned by their supervisor; furthermore, working hours may be extended in times of necessity.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical: Employee is required to sit, walk, frequently carry objects, occasionally may need to move department equipment or supplies in exces s of 50 pounds.
Mental: Must be able to work in a pressure environment, handling many work assignments at the same time. Job will require judgment decisions in prioritizing work assignments and personnel. In addition, the Special Program Coordinator must be able to maintain good employee relations and good community relations when dealing with irate or unhappy citizens acting in a professional manner .
All municipal employees will be expected to show and maintain a high level of initiative, enthusiasm, and motivation towards the improvement of ALL aspects of the Freeport community. Employees will also be expected to be available for work, to report to work in a dependable and timely fashion, and to be physically and mentally fit to do their assigned work.
