  • Supervise Recreation Center staff and programs.
  • Collect and account for receipts from department programs.
  • Develop and operate activity programs for the community.
  • General maintenance and upkeep of the Recreation Center and pool.
  • Inventory control and processing purchase orders.
  • Resolve customer problems and/or complaints.
  • Schedule and coordinate spring activities, games and practices.
  • Produce brochures, flyers and other advertising materials to promote public participation in scheduled program activities.
  • Formulate and supervise employee work assignments and schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or required.
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must have good comprehension and communication skills and be a quick learner.
  • Requires a self-starting individual who can follow instructions and take charge.
  • Show initiative and ensure routine and special projects are completed timely.
  • Demonstrated ability to be dependable, organized, flexible and service oriented.
  • Extensive knowledge of recreational programming and aquatics activities.
  • Knowledge of Recreation operations.
  • Computer skills to include use of facility management software.
  • Possession of excellent interpersonal skills with customers from various backgrounds.

POSITION TITLE: Special Program Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Recreation

RATE CLASS: Hourly Employee - Full Time

REPORTS TO: Public Works Director, Recreation Center Supervisor

SHIFT: Flexible- including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. Some College Preferred. Must have a valid Texas driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 90-days of hire.

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for general business administration operations of the Recreation Center and requires the use of independent judgment, initiative, and discretion.

SPECIAL SKILLS: An ability to facilitate positive community relations is required. Be able to work with the general public, and Recreation Center staff. Computer, word processing and typing skills are required.

DUTIES & RESPOSIBILITIES:

OTHER DUTIES:

This job description is intended to describe the general nature of work performed by the Special Program Coordinator and is not intended to be all-inclusive. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical:

Employee is required to sit, walk, frequently carry objects, occasionally may need to move department equipment or supplies in excess of 50 pounds.

Mental:

Must be able to work in a pressure environment, handling many work assignments at the same time. Job will require judgment decisions in prioritizing work assignments and personnel. In addition, the Special Program Coordinator must be able to maintain good employee relations and good community relations when dealing with irate or unhappy citizens acting in a professional manner.

All municipal employees will be expected to show and maintain a high level of initiative, enthusiasm, and motivation towards the improvement of ALL aspects of the Freeport community. Employees will also be expected to be available for work, to report to work in a dependable and timely fashion, and to be physically and mentally fit to do their assigned work.

  • Must pass a drug analysis test, physical exam, and successfully complete a background check.
