Job summary

City of Keller is seeking a Recreation Coordinator to support the Recreation Division by coordinating events, programs, and marketing efforts. You will oversee staff, volunteers, vendors, and sponsorships, while maintaining partnerships with the public and various groups.

The role involves planning and executing events like Fishing for Fun, Night Hike, and Keep Keller Beautiful, and requires strong communication, organizational, and design skills. Flexibility for nights and weekends is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Leisure Studies or related field preferred.
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in providing recreation programs preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications required or ability to obtain within five months of hire.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and write letters, memos, contracts, spreadsheets, and other job-related analysis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Knowledge of graphic design software (InDesign, Photoshop, Canva) preferred.
  • Ability to research, compile and analyze data and present findings to management.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with City staff, public officials, contractors, vendors, and the public.
  • Ability to create, implement, and oversee events.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment; may require nights and weekends.
  • Valid Texas Class C driver license.
  • Pass drug screen, physical, and background checks as required.

Job description

Position Function

- Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, performs duties necessary to support the Recreation Division by assisting with coordinating events and programs, including event and program management, marketing, development and maintenance of sponsor relationships, and oversight of staff, volunteers, vendors, and contractors.

Essential Duties % of Performance

Performs duties necessary to create, plan, and execute special events and programs, to include: schedule, coordinate, and oversee resources and logistics; prepare materials; create and distribute marketing materials; solicit and maintain sponsorships; coordinate the appropriate staffing, including City employees, vendors, contractors, and/or volunteers. Responsible for execution of special events and programs such as Fishing for Fun, Night Hike, Keep Keller Beautiful and others as assigned. Evaluates program effectiveness and makes recommendations for changes to Recreation Manager. Prepares content for reports and other communication avenues for both internal and external use. Develops and maintains essential partnership with the general public, groups, and vendors.60%

Performs duties necessary to administer and coordinate the City's Public Art Program. Plans, organizes, and executes quarterly art exhibitions and artist receptions. Coordinates Public Art Board-sponsored events, including the Keller Art Festival, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Concert, Mother's Day Concert, and other arts-related programs and initiatives. Serves as staff liaison to the Public Art Board by preparing meeting agendas, attending monthly board meetings, recording and publishing meeting minutes, and coordinating board communications and projects. Manages artist correspondence, exhibit logistics, artwork installation and removal, and related administrative functions. Develops and maintains partnerships with artists, arts organizations, community groups, and vendors. Assists with the planning and implementation of public art projects, programs, and special initiatives. 20%

Performs duties necessary to provide administrative and customer support, to include: responding to customers in person, by email, and/or by phone; cash handling; registration and/or reservation intake and maintenance; accurate and timely recordkeeping and reporting according to departmental, City, State, or other regulations; and the development and/or maintenance of informational materials.15%

Environment

Duties are generally performed in an office environment. Participation in outdoor events and/or venues could cause possible exposure to dust, mold, and allergens; noise; inclement weather; and electrical hazards.

Requirements/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Bachelor's Degree in Leisure Studies or related field, preferred.

Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in providing recreation programs, preferred.

First Aid and CPR certifications from the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Ellis & Associates required, or the ability to obtain within five (5) months of hire.

Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Work requires the ability to read and/or write letters, memos, contracts, spreadsheets, and other job-related analysis.

Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher.

Working knowledge of software used for graphic design and to develop brochures and other marketing materials (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, etc.) is preferred.

Ability to research, compile and analyze data, and present findings to management in an acceptable format.

Ability to monitor and assess operations, workload, projects, and team performance.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City and other public employees, public officials, contractors, consultants, vendors, media, and the general public.

Ability to create, implement, and oversee events.

Ability to meet deadlines, work under high demands, short time constraints, and the pressure of a fast paced work environment, meeting established timelines/deadlines and multi-task effectively.

Ability to work nights and weekends.

Ability to design graphics in various formats and mediums.

Knowledge of principles and practices of recreation and group activities.

Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver license.

Must pass all post offer pre-employment processes and/or procedures, to include but not limited to Drug Screen, PhysicalExamination, and applicable Background Checks.
