Summary: Patrols and monitors organization buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, and other illegal activities. Possesses arrest powers while on duty; provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees. Engages in public relation activities; maintains and troubleshoots access control and video systems; plans and implements officer training certifications and programs. Supervises contracted and per diem staff, Public Safety dispatchers, and transportation staff assigned to Public Safety. Duties include, but are not limited to, the qualification and potential use of firearms.

Qualifications:

  1. Valid New York State driver's license or ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of appointment.
  2. Certification or ability to obtain certification as a New York State Peace Officer within one (1) year of appointment.
  3. Current Pistol Permit or ability to submit an application for a New York State Pistol Permit within sixty (60) days of appointment.
  4. Certification or ability to obtain certification as a New York State, Department of Criminal Justice Services, General Topics Instructor- Police/Peace within two (2) years of appointment.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or a related field; or
  2. Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or a related field plus two (2) years of relevant full-time experience; or
  3. Associate's degree or 60 Credit Hours with completed Division of Criminal Justice Services approved Peace or Police Training Academy plus two (2) years of relevant experience; or
  4. High School Diploma or Equivalent plus four (4) years of relevant full-time experience.

Additional Candidate Requirements:

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must pass drug tests and Physical Fitness Assessment.
  4. Must pass psychological evaluation.

Note: Incumbents must maintain certification as a New York State Peace Officer and obtain/maintain necessary firearms permits. Degrees must be from accredited institutions.
