Job summary

Horry County Schools is seeking a Special Needs Transportation Aide for a 7.5-hour position in the Socastee area. The role supports the bus driver by loading/unloading students and maintaining a safe, respectful environment on the bus.

Essential duties include securing safety equipment and wheelchairs, documenting student information, and coordinating with the supervisor for substitutes. CPR/First Aid and Diastat training provided by the district.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Help ensure the safe operation of HCS Special Needs buses.
• Ability to address the needs of special needs students.
• Successfully pass the Physical Performance Test.
• Proof of American Citizenship or Employment Authorization.

Responsibilities

• Assist bus driver in loading and unloading students.
• Establish a safe, supportive, productive environment on the bus.
• Secure safety equipment and wheelchairs.
• Maintain neat appearance; uniform provided.
• Document student information when required.
• Report absences so a substitute can be secured.
• CPR, first aid and Diastat administration as needed with district training.
• Be familiar with bus braking procedures in emergencies.
