Job summary

Behavioral Emotional and Academic Mentoring LLC seeks a part-time paraeducator for on-site positions within Hacienda La Puente Unified School District. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent (or AA degree/48 college units) and pass the Paraeducator Exam; 1 year of relevant experience

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; AA degree/48 college units; or Paraeducator Exam.
• Recent experience working with youth groups, child centers, or playgrounds is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Direct support to students with special needs.
• Participate in activities planned by the school district staff.
• Assist in preparation and development of instructional training activities and materials.
• Assist in in-class activities based on instructions.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment with organized materials/equipment.
• Use effective teaching and behavior management techniques to support learning.
• Under direct supervision, assist with assessing student needs.
• Provide school staff with general impressions/observations of students.
• Work with students individually, in small groups, or in learning centers and provide instruction.
• Assist with classroom technology, adaptive devices, and equipment.
• Assist with social skills development.
• Assist with toileting, diapering, dressing, and hygiene.
• Maintain restroom/changing areas.
• Administer emergency treatment when necessary.
• May take children into the community.
• May assist children to feed themselves.
• Assignment might vary from district to district and school to school.
• Assist with playground supervision.
• Collaborate with staff and administration while performing duties.
• Reinforce lessons/activities with small groups.
• Assist with crisis intervention and discipline.
• Participate in program planning meetings as requested.
