Job summary

ESP Associates, Inc. is seeking a Special Inspector / Senior Engineering Technician in Charleston, SC, to perform inspections related to soils, foundations, concrete, and masonry. Responsibilities include reviewing project documents, conducting field tests, and reporting results. Qualifications

• Experience in inspection and construction testing of soil, concrete, masonry and/or asphalt materials preferred.
• ACI Field Grade I Certification, preferred, or ability to obtain within 1 year.
• ICC Certifications preferred, any or all of the following: ICC Soils, ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Structural Masonry, ICC Spray‑Applied Fireproofing, ICC Structural Steel and Bolting.

Job description

ESP Associates, Inc. is seeking a Special Inspector / Senior Engineering Technician (CMT) to perform inspection and testing services related to soils, foundations, reinforced concrete, structural masonry, fireproofing, and post-tensioned concrete.

Responsibilities

• Review and understand project related drawings, specifications, and applicable building codes
• Perform Special Inspections in the field for project document and code compliance
• Perform routine and advanced field tests in accordance with ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, DOT or other standards
• Document observations and inspections of construction including discrepancy notices for non‑compliant items
• Communicate effectively with ESP project staff and project construction team
• Report inspections and test results through ESP’s field data collection software

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or Associate Degree required
• Experience in inspection and construction testing of soil, concrete, masonry and/or asphalt materials preferred
• ACI Field Grade I Certification, preferred, or ability to obtain within 1 year
• ICC Certifications, preferred, any or all of the following:
  • ICC Soils
  • ICC Reinforced Concrete
  • ICC Structural Masonry
  • ICC Spray‑Applied Fireproofing
  • ICC Structural Steel and Bolting
• NICET Certifications and/or Post Tension Institute (PTI) Level I or II certifications will be considered beneficial
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Willingness to work in varying weather conditions
• Occasional overnight hours and/or travel for work
• Ability to lift 50 lbs
• Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy
