Job summary

ESP Associates, Inc. is seeking a Special Inspector / Senior Engineering Technician (CMT) to perform inspection and testing services related to soils, foundations, reinforced concrete, structural masonry, fireproofing and post-tensioned concrete in Charleston, SC.

Responsibilities include reviewing drawings, performing field tests, documenting observations, and reporting results using ESP’s data collection software.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or Associate Degree required.
• Experience in inspection and construction testing of soil, concrete, masonry and/or asphalt materials preferred.
• ACI Field Grade I Certification, preferred, or ability to obtain within 1 year.
• ICC Certifications, preferred, any or all of the following: ICC Soils, ICC Reinforced Concrete, ICC Structural Masonry, ICC Spray-Applied Fireproofing, ICC Structural Steel and Bolting.
• NICET Certifications and/or PTI Level I or II certifications will be considered beneficial in the role.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Willingness to work in varying weather conditions.
• Occasional overnight hours and/or travel for work.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy.

Responsibilities

• Review and understand project related drawings, specifications, and applicable building codes
• Perform Special Inspections in the field for project document and code compliance
• Perform routine and advanced field tests in accordance with ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, DOT or other standards
• Document observations and inspections of construction including discrepancy notices for non-compliant items
• Communicate effectively with ESP project staff and project construction team
• Report inspections and test results through ESP’s field data collection software
