From construction management and observation/inspection services to laboratory testing and materials and forensic engineering, our Construction Services market helps to develop and maintain America's infrastructure and supply chain and is a recognized industry leader with more than 35 accredited laboratories.

Kleinfelder is seeking qualified, responsible candidates for the position of Special Inspector to work on projects in the Augusta, Georgia, Boise, Idaho, Cheyenne, Wyoming or Bowling Green, Ohio metropolitan areas. This position will be based out of our San Jose, California office. We need inspectors and technicians who are comfortable being actively engaged on construction sites performing special inspections and testing of construction materials in the field. This role offers a dynamic work environment, the opportunity to work on a high-profile project, and be part of an industry leading company. This position can work on a full-time, part-time or flex basis.

Position Overview: We are seeking recent graduates with degrees in Construction Management or Construction Engineering Technology to join our dynamic team. This entry-level role provides hands-on experience in construction materials testing and offers significant growth potential within the company. As a CMT Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring the integrity and quality of construction materials used in large-scale projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform field and laboratory testing of construction materials such as concrete, soil, asphalt, and aggregates.
  • Document and report test results, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
  • Collaborate with project teams, engineers, and contractors to address quality concerns effectively.
  • Travel to various project sites, often requiring extended stays, to support testing and quality assurance initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work in a field environment.
  • A proactive attitude toward learning and obtaining certifications.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Use a company provided laptop or tablet computer and a working knowledge of MS Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • A good work ethic and high level of personal integrity.
  • Attention to detail, quality, and safety.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

This position requires the ability to:

  • Bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds (22.68 kg) repetitively and over 50 pounds (22.68 kg) using handling equipment (hand truck, etc.).
  • Operate equipment as necessary (i.e., ultrasonic nondestructive testing machine, concrete cylinder press, etc.).
  • Maintain safe mobility over construction obstacles by foot and ladder, traversing over rough broken ground and steep surfaces.
  • Work outside in variable weather at field sites and in labs with various levels of safety protection required.

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Transparency Law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $20.00/hour – $33.00/hour.
