Job summary

Groton-Dunstable Regional School District seeks a Special Education Team Chair for the 2026-2027 school year. The role provides leadership for SPED programming, oversees referrals and IEP processes, chairs TEAM meetings, and coordinates district resources and staff to support inclusive education.

The position requires a Master’s in Special Education, MA SPED licensure (Moderate/Intensive) and a director-level understanding of regulations and best practices; 200-day work year; salary

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Massachusetts licensure as SPED Teacher (Moderate or Intensive) or related field, and SPED Administrator licensure.
  • Substantial experience in Special Education.
  • Knowledge of SPED laws, regulations and evidence-based practices.
  • Experience facilitating communication and group decision making; providing professional development.
  • Work Year: 200 days per year.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the process of Special Education referral evaluation and program planning.
  • Acts as Chair for TEAM meetings; facilitates discussion and synthesizes student needs.
  • Maintains authority to commit District resources when chairing TEAM meetings.
  • Coordinates procedural continuity across the special education department.
  • Schedules TEAM meetings within designated timelines with staff and parents/guardians.
  • Monitors student progress towards IEP goals and curriculum expectations.
  • Supports programmatic continuity of specialized SPED programs.
  • Assists with coordination and oversight of contracted services.
  • Provides input for the development of the special education budget.
  • Coordinates student transition planning as part of the IEP process.
  • Provides professional development and leads SPED department meetings.
  • Supports planning for district-wide continuum of services including Extended Year Programming.
  • Maintains SPED records including referral, evaluation and IEP documentation.
  • Collaborates on policies and procedures for pre-referral, referral and evaluation.
  • Advises on the design and implementation of student support teams.
  • Ensures access to general education curriculum for SPED students.
  • Ensures participation in MCAS and MCAS Alternate assessments.
  • Collaborates with SPED and related services staff to deliver services.
  • Evaluates building-based staff as assigned.
  • Represents the district in SPED initiatives as assigned.
