Qualifications

• Current certification and registration as a Teacher Assistant issued by NYSED
• Active pursuit of NYSED TA certification
• Passing score on NYSTCE ATAS
• Ability to obtain NYSED TA certification within 90 days of appointment
• Desire to work with children with disabilities
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Ability to handle challenging behaviors calmly
• Ability to assist with ADLs including toileting and diapering

Responsibilities

• Supports teacher with classroom activities and small groups
• Provides 1:1 support for students as requested
• Assists with activities in gym, art, and music classes
• Prepares and distributes educational materials
• Documents student progress and behavior data
• Maintains health and safety policies in classroom
• Supports evacuation and emergency procedures
• Coordinates schedules and activities for students
• Supports students in community internships or site visits
• Participates in trainings and meetings as needed
