Job summary

Great Hearts Academies seeks a Special Education Teaching Assistant to support Upper School students at the Arlington campus. The role works under certified Special Education and General Education teachers to assist in 1:1 and small-group settings, adapt materials, and reinforce classroom rules.

Responsibilities include behavioral support, SDI reinforcement, helping with transitions, personal care tasks when needed, and providing clerical support to the ESS Team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or higher is required.
  • AA degree or higher preferred in some locations.
  • ParaPro proficiency exam may be required before starting work.
  • Educational Aide certification I, II, or III preferred.
  • Experience in special education is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support students in small groups or 1:1 settings.
  • Assist students with assignments, homework, and projects.
  • Adapt materials and provide modifications to support learning.
  • Reinforce classroom rules and routines.
  • Monitor and support student behavior using strategies.
  • Assist with transitions and activities.
  • Provide personal hygiene support when needed (toileting, feeding, dressing).
  • Provide clerical support to the ESS Team.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions.

Position Title: Special Education Teaching Assistant (Upper School)Location: Great Hearts Arlington Upper School (6701 S Cooper St.Arlington, TX 76001)Reports To: HeadmasterFLSA Status: Hourly, Non-ExemptThe Special Student Services - Teaching Assistant is a non-certified assistant to the Special Education Program at the academy for both general education and special education resource classrooms. The assistant will work to support students in all settings n campus under the direction of and in collaboration with the certified Special Education teachers and General Education teachers. Some locations (e.g. Title I schools) may require assistant teachers to have an AA, 60 hours of college credit, or be able to pass a ParaPro proficiency exam before beginning work.Required/Preferred Experience: Has experience in special education.Required/Preferred Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, and an interest in reading great books. Educational Aide certification I, II, or III preferred.Physical Functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.US Work Authorization required.Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions.
