Job summary

Great Hearts Lakeside Lower School in Fort Worth, TX is hiring a Special Education Teaching Assistant (K-5). This hourly, non-exempt role supports students in general and resource classrooms under certified SPED and General Education teachers.

The position emphasizes collaboration, behavioral support, and academic assistance. The TA will help with small groups, modifications, transitions, and daily activities while contributing to a positive learning environment and professional development

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or higher required.
  • AA degree preferred; ParaPro proficiency is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students in small groups or 1:1 to complete assignments.
  • Help adapt materials and provide modifications for learning.
  • Reinforce classroom rules and support behavior management.
  • Support transitions, personal care, and daily activities as needed.
  • Attend meetings and provide clerical support to the ESS Team.

Position Title: Special Education Teaching Assistant (K-5)Location: Great Hearts Lakeside Lower School (7633 Harris ParkwayFort Worth, TX 76123)Reports To: HeadmasterFLSA Status: Hourly, Non-ExemptThe Special Student Services - Teaching Assistant is a non-certified assistant to the Special Education Program at the academy for both general education and special education resource classrooms. The assistant will work to support students in all settings n campus under the direction of and in collaboration with the certified Special Education teachers and General Education teachers. Some locations (e.g. Title I schools) may require assistant teachers to have an AA, 60 hours of college credit, or be able to pass a ParaPro proficiency exam before beginning work.Required/Preferred Experience: Has experience in special education.Required/Preferred Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, and an interest in reading great books. Educational Aide certification I, II, or III preferred.Physical Functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.US Work Authorization required.Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions.
