Company Summary

Wyoming Connections Academy (WYCA) is a tuition-free, online public school for students in grades K-12 throughout Wyoming. WYCA is authorized under state law as a distance education program of Big Horn County School District #1, and operates under the Wyoming Switchboard Network. WYCA was founded in 2009 as Jackson Hole Connections Academy, and in 2011 became Wyoming Connections Academy. The school is operated through a contract with Connections Academy, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services. Connections Academy, a division of Connections Education, is accredited by AdvancED, and WYCA is accredited through Big Horn County School District #1.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

Accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year. Working from our office in Cody or from your home in Wyoming, the Special Education Teacher will virtually manage instructional programs for students with special needs. They will consult regularly with learning coaches and students to ensure successful completion of instructional programs, participate in all steps of the IEP process, and work closely with other educators and district professionals to ensure compliance and effectiveness of the special education program. The teacher will utilize technology to deliver virtual instruction.

The responsibilities include:

  • Managing and providing instructional guidance for a caseload of students;
  • Developing, writing, and implementing IEPs and 504 plans;
  • Evaluating assessments, completing report cards, and conducting parent conferences;
  • Communicating regularly with parents/learning coaches regarding IEP goals and student needs;
  • Consulting with teachers and coordinating the implementation of specially designed instruction;
  • Providing direct services via web-conferencing as needed;
  • Scheduling and conducting IEP meetings in a virtual environment;
  • Participating in the Student Support Team and helping develop program modifications;
  • Managing paperwork and documentation for IEPs;
  • Locating and negotiating with service providers for related services;
  • Maintaining accurate data in the LMS and special education software;
  • Assisting with state testing and accommodations based on IEPs;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Degree in Special Education or related field;
  • Valid Wyoming K-12 Exceptional Generalist certification, with preference for dual certifications;
  • Experience with IDEA policy and/or administration of Special Education;
  • Strong technology skills (Microsoft Office, Google Suite);
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Customer-focused approach;
  • High flexibility and adaptability;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Team player;
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for marketing and testing events;
  • Ability to use personal electronic devices and email with two-step authentication.
