A leading community school in Maryland seeks a Special Education Teacher/Team Leader to provide direct instruction and manage Educational Instructors. This role requires a valid Maryland State teaching license and a commitment to developing individualized education programs for students with developmental disabilities.
Reporting to the Education Director (CSM), the Special Education Teacher/Team Leader is responsible for providing direct instruction to children attending the Community School of Maryland. The Special Education Teacher/Team Leader is also responsible for the management, development and performance of Educational Instructors and for mentoring other Special Education Teachers.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university and meet the state licensure requirements for Special Education Teacher To maintain employment as a Teacher, Maryland State licensure must be kept current.
Experience: Minimum two (2) years’ experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in an instructional setting preferred. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Skills: Must possess strong written and oral communication skills, as well as good organizational and coordinative ability. Must possess and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise patience, caring and concern in new and sometimes stressful situations. Computer literacy required, with a proficiency in standard business software applications (i.e., word processing, e-mail and spreadsheets).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
REQUIRED TRAINING/PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS
Maryland State teaching license.
Upon hire, will be trained in Medication Administration, Mandt, and CPR/First Aid

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Employee must be able to effectively complete a non-adverse physical intervention with autistic individuals of varying heights, weights and levels of physical strength according to the guidelines presented in Behavioral Principles and Strategies training.
