Full-time

Located a ½ mile from the Atlantic Ocean and 15 minutes from Portland, RSU 23 is a 700 student, three‑school district seeking a Special Education Teacher to join our team. You will work with a team of providers at Jameson Elementary School to implement programming for students with intensive needs, primarily served in the special education setting.

Certification Requirements

• Citizenship, residency or work visa
• Maine Department of Education CHRC (Criminal History Record Check) https://www.maine.gov/doe/cert/fingerprinting
• Maintains or is eligible for Maine Department of Education Teaching Certificate (286 or 282 PreK and K‑8)

Qualifications / Job Summary

• Conduct academic evaluations and classroom observations
• Fulfill case management duties, including paperwork and consultation with classroom teachers
• Consult with team members to provide integrated programming
• Complete progress monitoring of all students on a scheduled basis
• Provide direct instruction in literacy, math, and daily living skills
• Develop and implement Positive Behavior Support Plans
• Supervise Educational Technicians
• Experience working with students with autism and/or cognitive disabilities; experience supporting students in the use of AAC devices
• Knowledge of Chapter 101 regulations
• Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and share best practices
• Excellent communication with parents, teachers, administrators, community leaders and other stakeholders to promote and support student success
• Demonstrated ability of understanding and supporting the academic, social, and emotional needs of students
• Interest in participating in the school community outside of the classroom
• Exemplary time management and organizational skills
