Job summary

Springfield School District 186 seeks a Special Education Teacher for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year. The role reports to the Supervisor of Community Based Programs and is based at Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Center.

Required: Illinois PEL with LBS1 and secondary endorsement; strong collaboration and instructional planning skills; experience with IEPs and progress monitoring. Salary per SEA agreement; application deadline is Until Filled.

Special Education Teacher - One Year Only

LOCATION: Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Center

CONTRACT PERIOD: Remaining of the 2025-2026 school year

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Community Based Programs

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

1. Valid Illinois PEL with LBS1 secondary endorsement and a general secondary endorsement preferred
2. Strong interpersonal communication skills in working with general education teachers,students, parents and staff
3. Strong knowledge base of secondary curriculum
4. Strong organizational skills
5. Strong problem-solving skills
6. Strong knowledge of intervention strategies and progress monitoring experience
7. Ability to model teaching strategies to meet the needs of students' various learning style
8. Ability to informally assess learning and/or behavioral needs of students & address those needsusing documented data

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Work collaboratively with all special education and general education staff
2. Work under the direction of the building principal
3. Provide instruction as determined by the students' IEP's
4. Participate in the development of comprehensive Individual Education Plans for identified students including behavior intervention plans
5. Provide consultation, technical assistance and training to teachers and parents of students experiencing learning or behavioral problems
6. Provide information to parents relative to strategies that can be used at home to support theschool's efforts
7. Take responsibility for implementation of IEPs for students on assigned caseload
