Job summary

North Slope Borough School District is seeking a Special Education teacher to implement research-based instructional strategies that support the learning of students with diverse needs.

Role emphasizes individualized instruction, frequent assessment, and adaptation of materials and methods to meet differences in learning styles and maturation, including preschool. The successful candidate will collaborate with administrators and staff to foster a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Education required; Master's Degree preferred.
• A person with a Bachelor's Degree may bring in six (6) years of experience
• A person with a Master's Degree may bring in eight (8) years of experience
• Three years of experience in education preferred.
• Inupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain competency in subject matter areas of certification and assignment. Training provided as needed.
• Employ assessment methods to identify student proficiency levels and plan programs using student achievement data.
• Promote harmonious relationships with students, parents, staff and community; demonstrate flexibility and cooperation.
• Promote and support NSBSD goals per the Board of Education Strategic Plan.
• Participate in educational committees and organizations for personal growth and professional advancement.
• Develop awareness of local culture and provide bicultural/multicultural instruction.
• Use Rubicon Atlas for culture-based unit development per annual expectations.
• Supervise and train instructional paraprofessionals as needed.
• Adhere to ethics and professional teaching standards.
• Write and submit weekly lesson plans and maintain digital copies.
• Adhere to district policies and regulations.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.
