Job summary

Instituto Justice and Leadership Academy (IJLA) in Chicago, IL seeks a Special Education Teacher to provide specially designed instruction for students with disabilities in a CPS-aligned setting. You will design lessons, implement IEPs, and collaborate with a team to support academic and social-emotional growth.

Responsibilities include developing transition plans, coordinating with families, and ensuring documentation meets program compliance. Strong English/Spanish communication is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in special education and/or core area content.
• Valid Illinois PEL in Special Education (PK-Age 21) endorsement (LBS1) or equivalent.
• Reading and ESL/Bilingual endorsement a plus.
• Five years of experience with students with disabilities.
• ICTS Basic Skills and Content Area tests passed.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws for Diverse Learners.
• Strong confidentiality and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design lessons aligned with IEPs and Least Restrictive Environment goals.
• Use adaptive devices to provide access to general curriculum content.
• Prepare and implement IEPs including transition and behavior plans for each student.
• Assess and monitor student progress using appropriate instruments.
• Collaborate with teachers, social workers, and deans to support students.
• Maintain documentation per CPS and IJLA program compliance.
• Engage families and attend IEP meetings; supervise paraprofessionals as needed.

Education

Bachelor's degree in special education and/or core area content

Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) - Special Education (PK-Age 21) endorsement (LBS1) or School Support Personnel endorsement with supervisory endorsement

Reading and ESL/Bilingual endorsement a plus

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Team player and independent worker
