Job summary

RCM Health Care Services is seeking a SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER to support middle school students in Grosse Pointe, MI for the current school year. Immediate interviews are available for qualified candidates.

Required Michigan certification with appropriate endorsement and a special education endorsement preferred. The role involves IEPs, assessments, and collaboration with families and staff, with emphasis on safety and timely data collection.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of modification and accommodations in the general education curriculum.
• Proficiency in developing Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance statements, IEP goals and objectives, FBAs, and behavior plans.
• Non-violent Crisis Intervention training.
• Working knowledge of special education law.
• Experience with students with disabilities including ASD, SLD, EI, CI, VI, HI, PI, OHI, SLI, and ADHD.
• Ability to meet physical demands including lifting up to 40 pounds.
• High energy and ability to respond quickly to situations.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Understanding of growth and development, learning theories, service delivery models, and state/federal rules for special education.
• Regular attendance is essential.

Responsibilities

• Participate in developing and promoting the special education philosophy of service and delivery.
• Collect accurate ongoing data on student programming.
• Demonstrate good interpersonal skills to work with staff, students, parents, and the community.
• Provide direct instruction for special education certified students in academic, communication, social, and transition areas.
• Provide direction to program paraeducators.
• Assess students’ progress.
• Develop and maintain special education records.
• Communicate with parents regarding student progress.
• Facilitate, write, and implement IEPs and Behavior Plans proficiently.
• Develop IEPs compliant with goals and educational benefit.
• Remain compliant with state and federal rules governing Special Education.
• Utilize assistive technology for students.
• Assist students with basic needs including feeding and toileting.
• Coordinate schedules of students within the program and placements.
• Develop collaborative Transition services for students.
• Work with Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Community Mental Health, Social Security, and ARC.
• Maintain open and meaningful communication regarding all disabled students.
• Maintain confidentiality of school information.
• Participate in staff development and training.
• Demonstrate understanding of students’ needs and interact appropriately with students, parents, and staff.
• Demonstrate initiative and creativity with individual plans and follow through on behavioral management programs.
• Keep records, prepare materials, and procure necessary resource materials.
• Supervise students in activities outside the classroom.
• Maintain composure under stress.
• Perform other duties as requested by the Administrator.

Reports to

Special EducationResourceProgram Teachers are supervised by the building principal in matters concerning day-to-day operations. They work under the direction of and are responsible to the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services for program coordination and development.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. *Participate in the development and promotion of the special education philosophy of service and delivery.
2. *Collect accurate ongoing data on student programming.
