Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation of IEPs for students with disabilities, following goals set by the SPED Teacher.
• Help deliver instruction in various subjects, adapting materials to student needs.
• Maintain a positive classroom environment and promote respectful behavior.
• Provide one-on-one or small group assistance as needed.
• Observe and document student performance and share feedback with the SPED Teacher.
• Collaborate with SPED and general education staff to ensure cohesive support.
• Encourage student social interactions and friendships.
• Prepare and organize instructional materials and equipment.
• Communicate with parents or guardians about student progress.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

American Leadership Academy - Lexington High School is currently accepting applications for a Special Education Teacher Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. Candidates must be willing to undergo a background check.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assist in the implementation of IEPs for students with disabilities, following specific goals and objectives outlined by the SPED Teacher.
• Help the SPED Teacher with delivering instruction in various subjects, adapting materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of students.
• Help maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment, promoting respectful behavior and encouraging student engagement.
• Support students in participating in learning activities, providing one-on-one or small group assistance as needed.
• Observe and document student performance and behavior, providing feedback to the SPED Teacher regarding individual student progress.
• Work closely with the SPED Teacher, general education teachers, and other support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student learning.
• Encourage social interactions among students, helping them build friendships and navigate social situations within the classroom and school environment.
• Assist in preparing and organizing instructional materials, resources, and equipment for classroom activities.
• Maintain open lines of communication with parents or guardians regarding student progress and any concerns that may arise.
• Other duties as assigned.
