Job summary

Charter One is seeking an Elementary Special Education Teacher Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year at American Leadership Academy - Johnston. Candidates must be willing to undergo a background check and support IEP implementations under the EC Teacher.

Responsibilities include assisting in instruction, adapting materials, maintaining a positive classroom, and supporting students one-on-one or in small groups.

Qualifications

• Maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment, promoting respectful behavior and student engagement.
• Support students in one-on-one or small group learning settings as needed.
• Observe and document student performance and behavior, providing feedback to the EC Teacher.
• Work closely with EC and general education teachers and other staff to ensure cohesive student learning.
• Encourage social interactions among students and help them navigate social situations.
• Assist in preparing and organizing instructional materials, resources, and equipment.
• Maintain open lines of communication with parents or guardians regarding student progress.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Assist in the implementation of IEPs for students with disabilities, following specific goals and objectives outlined by the EC Teacher.
• Help the EC Teacher with delivering instruction in various subjects, adapting materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of students.

• Support students in participating in learning activities, providing one-on-one or small group assistance as needed.

• Encourage social interactions among students, helping them build friendships and navigate social situations within the classroom and school environment.
• Assist in preparing and organizing instructional materials, resources, and equipment for classroom activities.
• Maintain open lines of communication with parents or guardians regarding student progress and any concerns that may arise.
