Responsibilities

• Design and implement legally mandated, customized educational plans with goals, services, and accommodations
• Modify lesson plans using multi-sensory approaches to suit diverse learning styles
• Monitor academic and behavioral progress and update IEP goals accordingly
• Collaborate with general education teachers, families, school counselors, speech therapists, and admins
• Coordinate special education documentation and ensure compliance with IDEA and state laws
• Implement behavior plans and manage classroom crises to maintain a safe environment
• Supervise and mentor Instructional Assistants or Paraprofessionals

About the Role

Provide educational instruction to students in K-12 school settings. You'll conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and deliver educational support to help students improve their skills and access their education. This role collaborates closely with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams to maximize student outcomes.

What You'll Do

• Designing and implementing legally mandated, customized educational plans that outline specific goals, services, and accommodations for each student.
• Modify standard lesson plans and using specialized teaching techniques (e.g., multi-sensory learning, scaffolding) to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
• Use both formal and informal tools to monitor academic and behavioral performance, then updating IEP goals based on this data.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes general education teachers, parents, school counselors, speech therapists, and administrators to provide holistic support.
• Coordinate special education documentation, maintaining confidential records, and ensuring legal compliance with federal and state regulations like the Individuals with Disabilities Act.
• Implement behavior intervention plans, utilizing positive reinforcement, and managing classroom crises to create a safe learning environment.
• Supervision: Overseeing and mentoring Instructional Assistants or Paraprofessionals who provide direct support to students.

What We're Looking For

Must Have

• Current Minnesota Department of Education Professional Educator's License in Special Education Tier 3 and above only
• Criminal and DCS background checks
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication

Preferred

• One year of experience as Special Education Teacher (new grads welcome)
• Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Intervention and Support (BPIS)
• Knowledge of science of read theory and practice
• Knowledge of evidence-based practices and special education programs
• Experience with school-based caseload management
