Summary: We are currently hiring for placement in a secondary setting within the district. Consideration will be given to all Special Education endorsements.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid Michigan K-12 School Teaching Certificate with one or more Special Education endorsements or a willingness to continue schooling if needed—Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferred with additional endorsement in ELA or Math.
  • Prior successful teaching experience preferred. Ability to develop and maintain a professional rapport with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Clear criminal history check, physical, and drug test required; first aid training.
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Builds trust and confidence with students; encourages good citizenship.
  • Plans curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods.
  • Maintains the physical environment of the classroom for organizational and presentation purposes.
  • Instructs individuals and groups on special education skill areas. Modifies curriculum as needed.
  • Monitors student progress in and outside the resource room.
  • Evaluates student progress based on work output and observation, determines goals, objectives, and directions.
  • Prepares report cards, educational records, IECP forms, classroom observation records, and other forms.
  • Participates in weekly building special education committee meetings.
  • Administers testing evaluations.
  • Fosters, recognizes, and supports ethnic, cultural, gender, economic, and human diversity within the classroom and school community.
  • Available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day, including conferences.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and board of education policies while modeling district standards of ethics and professionalism; implement policy/procedural changes from administration, the Board of Education, or state/federal changes.
  • Computer, organizational, and multi-tasking skills are required, as well as strong communication skills.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of this position, which includes sitting, standing, talking, seeing, and hearing. Occasionally, it will be expected to repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motions many times and push or lift up to 50 lbs., such as boxes of books.
  • Performs other functions and duties as assigned by the supervisor.
