Job summary

AVONDALE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a Paraprofessional III to support teachers in mild to severe self-contained special education classrooms. Responsibilities include formulating individualized programs, assisting with planning, and handling paperwork for IEP goals.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, Para Educator assessment or college credits, and a valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Para Educator assessment or 60 college credits or an Associate's degree required/preferred.
• Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
• General clerical experience preferred.
• Prior experience with special needs children preferred.
• Proficiency in English (written and verbal).
• Knowledge of Spanish and ASL preferred.
• Ability to pass background check.
• Must be able to push/pull or lift at least 30 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assists in formulating individualized student programs.
• Assists in classroom planning and preparation.
• Completes necessary paperwork for individualized curriculum.
• Participates in school functions and extracurricular activities.
• Helps students develop social and work skills.
• Assists with implementation of IEP objectives and goals.
• May supervise cafeteria and playground.
• May accompany teacher on home visits or homebound instruction.
• Assists with medical needs and personal hygiene as required.
• Transports students between wheelchair and seating areas.
• Assists teacher in behavior modification plans and classroom discipline.
• Identifies problems and refers students to appropriate personnel.
• Attends in-service activities and helps maintain neat work areas.
• Assists in preparing and collecting educational materials.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Para Educator assessment, 60 college credits, or Associate's degree

IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

First Aid and CPR certification (district may provide)
