Job summary

Memorial Middle School in Sioux Falls, SD, seeks an Education Assistant to support students with disabilities and daily living needs. The role emphasizes safety, 1:1 and small-group instruction, and collaboration with teachers.

The position is 0.875 FTE (35 hours/week) for 9 months, with a starting pay around $18.42/hour plus a $2 differential and a $1,000 sign-on bonus. Eligibility includes a pre-employment physical and safety review.

Qualifications

• Two years of post high school education or higher or pass a standardized test approved by the state of South Dakota, for designated Education Assistant positions.
• Experience working with individuals with disabilities or experience with behavior management.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, if new hires (including transfers).

Responsibilities

• Assists students in accessing transportation.
• Provides personal care to students with special daily living needs in accordance with established safety competencies.
• Provides review and practice of skills taught by a teacher with students 1:1 and in small groups in special education classroom and/or regular classroom.
• Works with students in schools and in community sites.
• Prepares instructional materials as directed/selected by teacher.
• Reinforces instructional/behavioral objectives with children as directed by the teacher/therapist.
• Provides assistance to maintaining student records.
• Monitors identified student(s) in lunchroom/on playground.
• Maintain the confidentiality of students and their families.
• Assists with management of student behavior.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
