Job summary

Minneapolis Public Schools seeks a Special Education Assistant (Program) for Dowling Elementary for the 2026-2027 cycle. This role supports students with disabilities, helping implement individualized lessons, promote independence, and aid in social inclusion and self-advocacy under supervision of licensed staff.

Core duties include assisting with learning activities, behavior support plans, data collection, and classroom setup.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) in Education, Child Development, Behavioral Sciences or related area to position.
• Passing ParaPro Assessment with a score of 460 or higher.
• Two years of paid experience working with children; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with special needs in a learning environment.
• Support staff to develop and implement individualized lessons.
• Promote inclusion, independence, and self-advocacy for students.
• Monitor student activities and maintain records of progress and behavior.
• Assist with daily routines including meals, medications, and transitions.
