Job summary

Minneapolis Public Schools seeks a Special Education Assistant at Lake Harriet Upper Elementary to support students with disabilities and help implement individualized lesson plans under supervision. The role includes assisting staff with IEP-related activities and ensuring a safe, respectful classroom environment.

Required are 90 quarter/60 semester college credits or higher, plus two years of experience with children. Preferred include an associate degree in education or related field.

Qualifications

• Completion of 90 quarter/60 semester college credits or higher.
• Two years of experience working with children; additional education or training may substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide support services to children with disabilities and assist staff to develop individualized lessons.
• Assist students in learning processes through positive behavior reinforcement and clear instruction.
• Monitor student activities and maintain a safe learning environment.
• Document behavior observations and assist with IEPs and related assessments.
• Assist with daily routines including meals, medications, and transitions between classes.
• Support students in community, after-school programs, and other activities.
