Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Teacher Assistant-Special Education to assist certified staff with instructional support and the supervision of students. This role works under building administration and special education leadership, with a focus on supporting students on IEPs.

Minimum qualifications include ISBE paraprofessional eligibility (ELS-PARA) and PARA K-12 certification, with Spanish-English fluency preferred. The position aligns with the 180-day work calendar and district expectations.

Qualifications

• Meet one of four approved pathways for paraprofessional eligibility.
• Fluency in Spanish and English preferred.
• ISBE form 77-34 or equivalent documentation referenced for eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Assists students with physical needs.
• Assistant to observe, record, and chart behavior.
• Assist with crisis problems and behavior management.
• Assist with group activities for students on IEPs.
• Tutor students as designed by licensed teachers; support IEP objectives.
• Prepare classroom materials and organize resources.
• Supervise students in hallway, lunchroom, playground, and on field trips.
• Support instruction under the direction of licensed teachers.
