Job summary

Altus Schools seeks a dedicated Education Specialist to support instructional programs for students with special needs. You will maintain accurate records, conduct ongoing assessment, and collaborate with instructional staff to plan individualized services.

The role requires implementing IEPs, advancing PPEPs, and coordinating with teachers, parents, and agencies to ensure compliant, effective support for diverse learners in a California public option.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of different disabilities and instructional strategies.
• Executive functioning instruction and supporting social skills development.
• Assessment tools (reading, language arts, math) such as WJIV, KTEA.
• Strategies for student motivation.
• Instructional strategies involving computerization.
• Secondary curriculum including advanced mathematics.
• Universal Design for Learning.
• IEP timelines and procedures.
• Laws and regulations related to special education.

Responsibilities

• Writes and implements all components of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
• Develops educational plans to meet individual learner needs.
• Evaluates students to identify needs and maintain records.
• Teaches to ensure progress toward goals and objectives.
• Coordinates services per IEP.
• Collaborates with staff, parents, and agencies for service delivery.
• Maintains accurate special education records and adheres to timelines.
• Conducts home visits to engage students.
• Contributes to and collaborates with the special education department.
• Participates in curricular and data/tech integration focus groups.
• Supports and develops PPEP (Pathways) for each student.
• Provides consultant services to Resource Center staff.
• Evaluates effectiveness of strategies and adjusts instruction.
• Works with teachers on teaming/communication.
