Job summary

Sumter County School District seeks a Special Services Coordinator to lead and coordinate services for students with disabilities. The role focuses on providing leadership, professional development, and collaborative administration to ensure compliant, effective SPED programs district-wide.

The coordinator will guide teams, support policy implementation, and work with school leaders to align services with state and federal mandates, ensuring smooth transitions for students and ongoing program

Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in Special Education or related area.
• SC certification in Educational Administration.
• SC certification in Special Education.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a special education teacher.
• Experience in special education policies and the development of IEPs.

Responsibilities

• Provides guidance, leadership and professional development for special education teachers in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans.
• Serves as a member of the Special Education Leadership team to analyze data, assist in policy development, and determine professional development needs.
• Collaborates with the Executive Director of Student Support Services and HR in recruiting and retaining special education teachers.
• Serves on the district team for teacher support and evaluation for Special Education teachers.
• Participates in special education meetings to ensure compliance with state and federal policies.
• Coordinates with district, community, and state stakeholders to assure students exit high school with a diploma, credential or postsecondary placement.
• Conducts Special Services Lead Teacher meetings to provide policy guidance.
• Works with district personnel to provide academic and behavior supports for students with disabilities.
• Provides professional development in specially designed instruction for students with disabilities.
• Guides administrators to maintain compliance with mandates for students with disabilities.
• Supports high school teams on student transitions, curriculum and mandates.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education
