NOTICE OF OPENING: Special Education Resource Room Teacher

LOCATION: Chatterton Middle School


WORK YEAR: 2024-2025 School Year


SALARY: Per FEA Contract


Qualifications
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a special education endorsement
  • Experience working with students in groups and individually, in the classroom and other settings
  • Ability to complete and maintain required records, forms, and reports professionally and timely
  • Ability to develop an IEP based on data appropriate to the student's needs
  • Ability to participate cooperatively in Child Study Teams, team evaluations, and IEPs
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate behavior plans for various educational settings
  • Understanding of behavioral intervention techniques, including data from functional behavior analysis
  • Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs
  • Ability to adapt curriculum focusing on personal adjustment, emotional regulation, communication, social skills, and academics
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Competencies include establishing relationships, adapting to changing priorities, maintaining confidentiality, tact, patience, flexibility, and resilience
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Teaching and consultative skills to modify curricula with appropriate accommodations for students with IEPs
  • Collaboration, course planning, skill assessment, and instruction
  • Providing case management services for students with IEPs
  • Ensuring students are educated in the least restrictive environment
  • Participating in professional development and implementing best practices
  • Creating a conducive classroom environment
  • Administering assessments and developing individual learning plans
  • Assessing student progress and providing feedback
  • Managing student behavior for a safe learning environment
  • Maintaining accurate records as required
  • Accommodating students with learning difficulties and consulting district specialists
  • Encouraging positive classroom behavior standards
  • Performing additional duties as assigned
