Job summary

Walker in Needham, MA is seeking a Special Education Teacher - Reading to support students individually or in small groups, focusing on phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. This role includes writing IEP goals in collaboration with the classroom team.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and licensure in Special Education, Moderate Disabilities PreK-8; a Master’s degree, reading specialist license, and Wilson certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field and licensure in Special Education, Moderate Disabilities PreK-8.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in special education; reading specialist license; Wilson certification.
• Experience teaching reading.
• Experience with children with complex social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and provide multi-sensory individualized instruction in reading, including phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children.
• Translate student work evaluations into accurate records, writing thorough IEPs and quarterly reports.
• Maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and effectively manage student behavior in small and large groups.
• Participate fully in administrative functions of teaching and childcare, including meetings and reporting to families and team members.
• Follow Walker policies and procedures and provide coverage as needed.
