Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Para Certificate or Post-Secondary Education preferred.
• Experience in a K-12 education system is preferred.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable

Responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation of student's Individual Education Plans and support in the preparation and organization of instructional materials and equipment.
• Implement a Behavior Implementation Plan (BIP).
• Assist with and/or perform personal care and hygiene activities as necessitated by the needs of the student.
• Will implement strategies and participate in ongoing training that prevents, minimizes, and manages behavioral challenges with dignity and safety for the student.
• Participate in training and supporting the implementation of alternate communication devices as needed and ensuring access across settings.
• Participate in verbal de-escalation and crisis management training provided by the Iowa City Community School District
• Maintain as requested student documentation, Medicaid logs, and progress monitoring.
• Support in the transition of students on and off the bus, as well as when needed riding the bus to support students based on student needs.
• All personnel supporting students with individual educational plans should anticipate supporting occasional and up to consistent bus riding and must complete bus rider training
• Create and maintain positive working relationships with the school community, students, and other employees.
• Attends work on a prompt and regular basis
• Maintain confidentiality
• Other duties as assigned.
