Job summary

Fort Zumwalt School District is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with disabilities at Lewis & Clark Elementary in St. Peters, Missouri. The role reports to the Building Principal and is non-exempt under FLSA.

Responsibilities include assisting teachers, supporting students with IEP goals, helping with daily living skills, and monitoring behavior. The position is full-time with a 9-month calendar and a salary distributed in equal payments.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
• Preference will be given to candidates who have a minimum of sixty (60) college hours and are able to obtain a substitute teacher certification.
• Experience working with students with disabilities, behavioral needs, or in educational settings is strongly preferred.
• Candidates must demonstrate flexibility, reliability, and a commitment to supporting diverse learners.

Responsibilities

• Assist the special education teacher or general education teacher with instruction of special education students.
• Meet the needs of all students with disabilities under the direction of administration and special education teams.
• Monitor and assist students in multiple classroom environments to complete tasks and follow IEP accommodations.
• Assist with the physical care of special education students as needed.
• Assist in teaching and modeling positive behaviors.
• Assist students in daily living skills such as feeding, toileting, and mobility.
• Provide support in monitoring, intervening, and redirecting student behaviors and de-escalation.
• Monitor the classroom when the teacher is unavailable (certified paraprofessionals or teachers only).
• Assist student(s) with assistive technology usage.
• Assist in data collection related to IEP goals.
• Lead individual and small group activities under teacher direction.
• Facilitate communication between general and special education teachers.
• Escort students to and from classes and transportation as needed.
• Maintain documentation and records for student files.
