Job summary

Washington County Public Schools is seeking a Paraprofessional for the Special Education Summit at Maugansville Elementary School. This 7-hour day, 10-month position assists teachers, supports individual students and small groups, and participates in crisis de-escalation when needed.

Starting hourly rate is $19.26 with potential earnings on the ESP Salary Scale from $19.26 to $34.84. Eligible for a 10% program differential. Reports to Building Administrator.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Highly Qualified status (A.A. Degree, 48 credits, or passed Paraprofessional Assessment Test).
• Two years' experience with children with emotional disturbance/behavioral issues or combination of education and experience totaling two years.
• Ability to handle stressful situations calmly with students who are verbally/physically aggressive.
• Ability to lift 20–50 pounds and participate in physical restraint maneuvers when needed.
• Regular and predictable attendance essential.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce skills.
• Help students generalize social skills in general education settings.
• Participate as part of a crisis response team with verbal de-escalation and physical restraint when required.
• Assist the teacher in devising strategies and maintaining classroom organization.
• Support supervision and management of students during instructional and non-instructional activities.
• Assist with physical care of students as needed.
