Job summary

Washington County Public Schools seeks a Paraprofessional for Rockland Woods Elementary School to support special education students. The position begins with a starting pay of $19.26 per hour, with potential earnings up to $34.84 per hour as the ESP Salary Scale advances.

The role involves working 7 hours per day, 10 months a year, reporting to the Building Administrator. Key duties include assisting teachers, reinforcing skills, and helping manage classroom activities and student needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Meet Highly Qualified status (AA degree, 48 credit hours, or Paraprofessional Praxis Test).
• Two years’ experience in school setting or working with children or combination of education and experience totaling two years.
• Ability to lift between 30-50 pounds in specified situations.
• Regular and predictable attendance essential.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce skills introduced by the teacher.
• Assist the teacher in devising strategies for reinforcing skills and instruction.
• Assist with physical care and management of students as needed.
• Follow through to carry out individual programs designed by the teacher.
• Participate in team planning and provide input as appropriate.
• Assist with instructional activities and maintaining a positive learning environment.
• Use classroom equipment and materials appropriately.
• Supervise and manage students during instructional and non-instructional activities.
• Provide information regarding child development to parents/childcare providers.
• Support individualized programs and help students master assigned materials.
• Guide independent study and enrichment work as set by the teacher.
• Read to students and engage in oral reading activities.
• Maintain high ethical standards and confidentiality of student information.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

AA degree / 48 college credits or Paraprofessional Praxis Test

Two years of school/childwork experience

Strong interpersonal skills

Ability to follow directions

Language and math basics proficiency
